My name is Wilfredo and I will describe in the following words how it was for me and my wife, Andrea, our process to come to New Zealand. First, in early 2019, we heard of a friend in my country in Central America that he was talking with someone from New Zealand, about exploring the possibility of getting there, so we asked him about the details. Once we had the details, we got in contact with Shekhar, from Grey Cells Ltd., and He asked us several questions to let us know if we were eligible, and so, we started the process. We had to take the English test, collect the funds, look for something suitable to study and many other things. Shekhar walked us through all the process. He built a plan for us and told us that, at that stage and with the current immigration rules, the best option was to study a master’s degree because it could open a work visa for my wife while I was studying. And so we did; it was not easy to cover all the requirements, it took a lot of determination and sacrifice, but at the end, we could. By March 2020 we had already been accepted for entering New Zealand for me and my wife; however, sadly it was during March 2020 when the COVID started being felt worldwide and the lockdowns started, and our process was delayed. Two years passed and we just kept living our lives and thought that this process was over, but in March 2022, I received an email from the University asking us if we were willing to be proposed to be nominated to be one of the first group of students to come New Zealand in the reopening phase of the country to the world, to which we agreed. Those months passed very fast and we spoke again to Shekhar. He explained us that we had to start over again, but with much faith, we tried again. This time it was way easier because we already had all the documentation and it took less effort, and I (Wilfredo) still remember that day and the moment when Shekhar told me “Wilfredo, we did it, your documents just arrived”, and Shekhar explained me that my wife’s document were going to be arriving soon since her application was relying on mine. Well, it happened that Immigration required here another health test, and right before taking it, my wife (Andrea) noticed that she had COVID. Really bad news for us because we wanted to depart together, and in my case, I had a deadline to come to university, and I had no confirmation of her documents to be approved. I spoke to Shekhar and told him that I could not leave my wife behind, but thanks for all the assistance; practically, I was giving up on all this…. But then, Shekhar called me and gave me strength. He told me to have determination, to have courage, that we had fought a lot together and he was defending me in this case and gave me another perspective. Shekhar told me that New Zealand could be a great place to settle down and have a new life, and also told me that such opportunity is desired by many. So my wife and I took the risk even knowing that at that moment, only I (Wilfredo) was going to depart. A few days later, Shekhar called me back and told me: “Wilfredo, we did it again with Andrea”. And so, Andrea came to the country around one month later with a partner work visa, while I am studying. Regarding Shekhar’s job, we can just say thank you. He has a lot of experience and we are amazingly grateful with everything that he did for us for not only the paper work, but also for all the words that we needed to hear in the right moment.
